Registering Your Puppy's Microchip

Follow these steps to acüvate your new pet’s microchip in your name:

1. Ensure that this microchip number is not already attached to a different owner. To do so, type in “microchip lookup” in google, or go to the AAHA website linked below and enter in the 9, 10, or 15 digit number you were given.

2. After entering in the number, a list of companies will show up. This is a tool that helps you find the registry where your pet’s microchip is listed, but will require you to call each of the companies to update any information and/or link the pet to your name.

3. Call each of the companies listed to find a previous owner and/or to update the information currently attached to the micropchip number.

4. If the microchip is not attached to any previous owner and you need it to be registered in your name, you can go to the animal human society website linked below.

5. Once on the website, chose any of the linked registration companies and follow the instructions/requirements listed by whichever you select, Registration steps vary by company, but each are easy to follow on the website.
