Canine Influenza Information

Dear clients,

We have been monitoring the canine influenza outbreak in Chicago closely and it appears that there has been a confirmed case in Southern California.

For more information on Canine Influenza we recommend the following links:

https://www.avma.org/public/petcare/pages/canineinfluenza.aspx

http://www.cdc.gov/flu/canine/index.htm

Thankfully, we have not yet seen any cases in our area.

There is no vaccine currently proven to be effective at preventing this strain of canine flu.

We have seen many cases of “typical” kennel cough recently. Therefore, if your dog shows any signs of an upper respiratory infection, it is much more likely to be common kennel cough rather than the H3N2 influenza virus.

If you are concerned that your dog is showing signs of an upper respiratory infection we recommend that you call the office for an appointment.
